About Us
Smatchy began as an MBA class project at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Our fearless professor created a unique algorithm that measured how similarly people answered questions and challenged us to make something useful out of it.
Overwhelmed by the content available on the Internet, but disappointed with the lack of accuracy in recommendations and communication in general, we decided to use the technology so that people of like minds could find each other. The result is Smatchy, a unique social network that uses your responses to enhance communication, communicate suggestions, and suggest friends.

Joel Wooten is currently President and Chief Executive Officer of Smatchy. Joel is a 2006 MBA graduate of Wharton and holds a BS in Industrial Engineering from Georgia Tech. Prior to Smatchy, Joel was a consultant and also helped several other successful startups get going. In his free time, Joel plays ultimate frisbee on a nationally-ranked team and enjoys snow skiing. |

Juneen Belknap is currently Chief Operations Officer of Smatchy. Juneen is a 2006 MBA graduate of Wharton and holds a BA in Asian Languages and Civilizations from Amherst College. Prior to Smatchy, Juneen spent her time as a senior consultant, working with IT development teams in a wide variety of projects and industries. |

Karl Ulrich is the Chair of the Operations and Information Management Department at the Wharton School and acts as one of Smatchy’s chief advisors. He has been a member of development teams for over 30 new products or processes, including medical devices, computer peripherals, and sporting goods. Karl holds bachelors, masters, and doctoral degrees in mechanical engineering from MIT. |
